Death and taxes are toted as inescapable but I’d add waiting. We’re constantly waiting for something…
For a baby to be born.
For summer’s long days,
the birth of a new school year
and whatever special event that comes with it.
For the moment to find our space in the world.
We wait for a soulmate
and the most sacred commitment we’ll ever make to another human.
For a diagnosis
and treatment.
Between these moments we wait distracted from peace and happiness.
After writing several soul provoking articles about grief, the marginalized and a church split I took five months off from writing publicly waiting for my heart to be strong enough to type. My summer study of Ecclesiastes reminds me how short out days are.* Waiting is not a luxury for any of us and I’m determined to live better in the wait.
Until the wait is over I’ll be adding to my new series “Writing in the Wait”.
What are you waiting for?
Let’s wait together.
