Ever think about the sub-text of what you’re saying? I had a reality check today as I discussed business strategy with my wonderful husband. I had asked him to get specific information from a colleague who has an incredible arsenal of ideas. He replied, “I already have my own information on that.” To which I quipped back, “No. I want hers.”
Did I ever stop to ask, “What’s your information like?” NO.NO.NO. Even to just give ear to what he has swirling in his mind?
Sub-text: I don’t want to hear your ideas. I don’t have time for you and your ideas. Your ideas are lame…..I could go on, but go ahead and add some thoughts of your own.
I can’t imagine being on the receiving end of this conversation. Demoralizing for certain. Pretty sure this would crush my ego and worse, my spirit.
How long have I been acting this out? How hurt and emasculated is my precious husband? Who else have I done this to?
How’s your sub-text? Take a moment, it takes some honest thought. You may not like what you find, but how much worse it would be to continue on with a dagger tongue.
What exactly really stimulated u to write “Sub-Text Check-
How Are You Treating People, Really? Peacequility”?
I actuallycertainly enjoyed reading the blog post!
Many thanks -Von
